Over the previous week or so, 87002 had been working Caledonian Sleeper empty coaching stock moves between Polmadie and Glasgow Central. It had worked light engine between Polmadie and Edinburgh Waverley the previous day (Friday) and was stabled in the South Siding ready to work part of Sunday's "Day 4" of the 2016 GB Railfreight XV 4-day Charity Railtour.
