87101 arrived at Barrow Hill on 13th November 2001, following its sale by EWS for component recovery. Most of the standard parts were recovered by Alstom for use in the 87/0 fleet, but the bodyshell and non-standard equipment was to be disposed of. Fortunately we were able to secure the purchase of 87101's unique tap-changer-less transformer and two of the thyristor banks.
