The AC Locomotive Group

stockheader

The AC Locomotive Group is the only preservation group in the UK specialising in AC locomotives and formed in late 1996 to save the last examples of classes 81, 82, 83 and 85.

At that time these locos had been offered for sale by Pete Waterman, who was reducing his collection. Against all the odds, we were able to secure all four locomotives in mid 1997, despite only having six members at the time!

Our main aims are:

  • To preserve and maintain all the locomotives in our fleet (in working order or as rolling exhibits), and make them available for public view and special events.
  • To encourage interest in all types of AC traction, past, present and future.

We are always on the lookout for new members of all ages and expertise, and full details of the benefits of joining and how to become a member can be found by clicking on the Join Us link on the menu to the left. AC electric fans are a very rare breed, so we really do need to hear from you.

With the ongoing support of our existing and future members we are continuing to build on our early successes, with the gradual restoration of our fleet.

AC preservation starts here!
